The only thing that I feel is kind of a slap to the face is the fact that the plans offered for the iphone in particular are just so terrible 400MB for a $60 phone plan? I mean come on...thats just disgusting.

I think even though most plans are pretty bad, the iphone offered by rogers is just going way to far.

Just because it's a popular phone dosn't give them the right to rip people off like this...I personally hope they get whats coming to them.

While I agree with some of your points I have to disagree with your statements about taxes in Canada.  The Federal Corporate tax rate in Canada is 22.1% as opposed to 35% in the USA.  In fact, the Federal Corporate tax rate in Canada is one of the lowest around.  True, there are provincial tax rates that amount to as much as 14% but the US also has state taxes that amount to about 6.5%.  They don't simply add their taxes (i.e. 35+6.5=41.5) so their sum total of tax rate is around 39% while Canada does simply sum the taxes (no tax on tax) so the rate is a maximum of 36.1%.  So no matter how you shake it the corporate tax rate in Canada is LOWER than in the USA.  (If you watch some American Business leaders you hear them complaining about this from time to time.)
As for the personal tax rate, I can say from direct experience that as a single person who does not own a home in the US I would pay almost exactly the same income tax there as in Canada (22% Canada versus 21% USA).  The income tax rate differs when you add in the mortgage write off that the US gives their home buyers.
Tax rates alone do NOT justify higher prices in Canada, if anything they justify a LOWER price!

Yes, Canadaian pay more because of higher taxes supporting Canadian socialism, but in many more cases Candaian pay more because of Canadian socialism [they payed for in a first place] that suppresses free market and eliminates competition.

Multinational banks, telecommunication companies, insurance companies are not allowed into Canada. This allows local ones that are few to get into conspiracy price agrrements and charge ridiculous prices.

Why is it I (!!!) have to pay the bank for keeping and using my (!!!) money? Why is it less expensive for an average Joe to buy anything from books to cars in the States (after paying for delivery and taxes) than to buy it locally? Aren't big dealers and retailers supposed to have an advantage of economy of scale?

The answer to all these question is simple: it's like this because Canadians at large have no choice, but to use services of a few local monopolists, who care about marker protection more than of a customer or anything else.

I see your point but were talking about cell phone plans here, no importing products. Unless all of our Canadian calls/data get routed through the US, then there is no reason for our Cell phone plans to cost so much.

This is a bit of a high school debate way of attacking the post.
Combined taxes in Canada are not lower than the US. Sorry. Add to that the personal income tax and many states that have NO tax on small business income But all of that aside: you pay 17 to 23% tax on items taxed at a nominal level between 1.2% and 9.1% in the US and no GST. US Excise taxes are not charged directly on imports like GST. So subtract any US taxes/tariff from that number and you get a huge disparity.
Suck it up folks. There is a reason we pay more and the man covered it pretty well in the above post.

Well until the prices adjust in Canada on any products, the only thing I buy in here is things I need everyday(food, gas).  Anything that I can buy in the US that is less than here, I will buy in the States(Cars, Clothes, Electronics, etc).  I will always shop in the US, until the price is the same as here on products.
