compare the prices... we get so ripped off. 2 dressers that were the same price in the states were a couple of hundred more here. Not to mention that one was the more expensive then the other because one had more drawers (that were much smaller). Poor Taste?

Thats a simplistic view of the difference in economic realities between the States and Canada. Businesses in Canada face much higher costs due to taxes and employee costs and this must be passed on to consumers. This website should focus more on the over regulation and excessive taxes in Canada. Problem is Canadians want everything for free and not having to work too hard without accepting the consequences.

I am disgusted to hear this. I am a loyal IKEA customer and have been for years. Now I will compare prices and if they are not the same as in US I will not buy the product. If all the prices are more in Canada than IKEA can count on losing my substantial business as well as my word of mouth passing on this inforamtion to others.

Ikea products are all Junk you can do better at other Canadian Stores, I haven't shopped at Ikea for 20 years.

John, which stores, in particular, do you think one can "do much better at" than at IKEA. Specifically, for IKEA-like furniture. True, it sucks that IKEA Canada is more expensive than the US, even after accounting for exchange rates, but most other stores in Canada are also much more expensive than the US. So which furniture/home furnishing/etc store offers similar products for a better price in Canada?

It is now 2011 and the Canadian dollar has been at par with the American for about a year now. I have just made a random comparison sample of Cdn vs. US Ikea prices and have found that the Canadian price is from 25% to to 40% (!!) more. What gives?
