So my Rogers paper bill just arrived and it contains this interesting note:IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT YOUR BLACKBERRY DATA PLANYou have subscribed to a BlackBerry data plan for use with your BlackBerry device. We've noticed that you are now using a device that is not a BlackBerry, which is not compatible with your BlackBerry data plan. Effective July 16, 2012, you will no longer have data access on any device other than a BlackBerry. Please ensure that you use a BlackBerry device in order to continue to have data access. In you prefer to use a non-BlackBerry device, then please call 1 888 764-3771 and we'll be happy to switch you to another data plan that is compatible with that device. Thank you.
Looks like the next level of customer reaming has started. I was on a 512MB data plan for my iPhone - the one and only device I've ever had a data plan on Rogers for. They didn't publicly list a half-gig plan, but after talking to a rep about switching carriers, I was put onto this one with no mention that it was flagged as "BlackBerry." So I guess the ultimatum is now: 1) Pay a lot more for a data plan at least 50x as big as I'm ever likely to use in a month, probably renewing the contract automatically.2) Remove the data plan, possibly renewing the contract automatically, and still being locked in for over a year with no data.3) Cancel the contract altogether and pay a hefty "screw you" fee because only Rogers is allowed to break the terms of their contract, not the consumer. So, has anyone else run into this now? Any good ideas on how to get out of it or fix it?
