The 407 is a major problem, increase our taxes marginally and let everyone use it. When this money magnet opened you had to pay a $2000.00 deposit for transponders as a corporation, which at the time was not possible for me. So needles to say in a pinch myself and the odd one of my trucks went on it without the transponder, so we just had to pay the extra charges. As time went on we used it less, then the trucks never went on it. The problems started when a customer of mine would use my trailer the odd time and go on the 407, which in turn I would get the bill for $50.00 plus each time. So over the last ten years we have had a running balance that seems to never reduce (Visa like). Now every time I go to renew a plate or add a new vehicle I have to pay $1000.00 or $2000.00 before I can. In the last year I have had to pay about $5000.00 in order to get plates. I have tried to make payment arrangements several times with no success, the last time I spoke with them about a week ago I tried again to make payment arrangements. This time she told me that if it is just personal you can apply to make payments, which to me is silly just make the arrangements over the phone. If you are a business there is no payment arrangements. As the conversation carried on I learned that they charge over 26% interest and if you are from Alberta you are considered unbillable. Only in Ontario can your plates be denied!!!!! I have been told that if you leave a job that you have a non compete contract and you go to work for someone else or start a business doing the same thing. Even though you have a contract they can not stop you from working. The 407 has stopped me, I can no longer afford to pay these penalties which in turn means I can not get plates for my trucks. Our Government needs to help us I am not the only one with this problem, times are very tough right now. How can we get together on this?
