I am an employee of rogers and have all my services with rogers...of
course! even before I was an employee. I am speaking completely upon my
own personal opinion and do not speak on behalf of the company in any
way. Competitors offer unlimited data but lets be honest. the average
consumer on a smartphone DO NOT use more than 6 Gigs of data a month!
Thats crazy. The plans and costs associated with the iphone 3G in
canada are fair. The Iphone 3G retails far more than what the consumer
will pay on a 3yr term. Not to mention the plans associated with the
iphone 3G are priced good as well along with the value packs. Try
buying a iphone otherwise and you can pay upwards to $700 - $800
depending on model..Im a very happy customer of rogers will NEVER
switch... put yourself in the companies mind of this situation...your
the one in charge...what would you do? Free iphone??? Heck no! Dont
forget what your getting....a state of the art in telecommunications
and entertainment device. Some people paid up past $800 for a Xbox 360
or PS3...Anyways, thought I would say what I said...cya!

I am sure you feel good with Rogers... And why shouldn't you if you have never travelled. To me Rogers looks like a 3rd world company. The sheer number of ridiculous practices and incomplete services leaves Canada at a 3rd world level: charging for incoming calls, charging for the most basic features like call display, or voice mail? Wow. 0.5 Mbps is supposed to be broadband? Among the things that remind me the most of sub-Saharean countries is the roaming charges outside of your city of residence...
And concerning the 3 years contract it's just plain ridiculous. you can't even suspend it if you move out of the country for 6 or 10 months. The data plans. Are there any? I mean apart from the basic 6Go for $30 which is not a plan but a limited offer... But you might be right, for Canada it's more than enough it's not like video mail or video calls were available in this country or on the iPhone. But you have to remember that the technological level of your country is pretty dependent on the architectures that are made available to the companies and individuals. It's basically impossible to get a decent 100Mbps connection for a rational $50. And the data limits on the internet connections... It's just plain pathetic. On most canadian "broadband" connections, downloading a moderately complex 8GB database is a hellish experience, and at the end of the month you end up with 70Go over the limit. Canada considers broadband to be 64k or above... It explains it all. Your standards in technology are 10 years late... some would argue it's the same with fashion. So despite Canadian labour being cheap, opening tech companies here leads to numerous setbacks due to the under-developed techno/telco market which itself results from the lack of clear legislations and competition.
I hate it when Rogers say their data plans are more than enough for customers as most of the data users don't use more than a certain amount. Do you even know why they never used alot of data? It is simply because the data plans are expensive!!!
