I'm aware that it is your view however just as you post your view on here, I'm posting mine. The difference is we see things a little bit differently; you see Rogers as money grabbing thieves, I see it as a company that has a responsibility to it's share holders to produce good results each quarter.
Consider this, Rogers started out with a TDMA network (much like bell and telus CDMA technology) and then migrated their service to GSM to make it compatible with the standard that the rest of the world was using. So you can imagine that changing from one technology to another is not as easy as flipping as switch, when you have to convert every tower you've set up across Canada (remember, 2nd largest country) to the newer technology that supports all 4 bands it takes a bit of an investment I would imagine. So now you have Rogers doing this for its customers to provide better service and mobility and guess what the system access fee didn't go up and the prices for the plans remained competitive with the other providers. Also note that when Rogers aquired Fido it let Fido customers use their towers without charge after a while even though they were the only GSM "competition" . Now let's look at the competition,
Telus: Same technology as was used in the 90s, wants to charge you for incoming texts if u don't have a plan + 911 fee is 0.75 cents
Bell: Same technology as was used in the 90s, wants to charge you for incoming texts if you don't have a plan, System access fee is $8.95 + 911 fee is 0.75 cents
now you are probably wondering, why is bell's System access fee $2 more than everyone else when they are still using the same technology that used to power the grey bricks from back in the day? They use it to pay the dividends to THEIR shareholders instead of investing in their network. I can only imagine how much their system access fee would go up if they actually went to GSM and spent more on what the system access fee was for.
Sorry for the long post, I am a rogers customer and have never had a problem with them, I guess the point I'm trying to make is at least rogers reinvests the profits back into their network. I don't think their competition can make the same claim though.
