Pissed at rogers? Ditch them as your cable provider. Get up to 20+ good quality over-the-air digital broadcast, and its absolutely free.
Traditional broadcast TV may be bad quality but there are existing digital broadcasts from some Canadian and U.S. channels along the border. Digital broadcasts means you get perfect picture quality and HD channels if the signal strength is above a certain threshold, or you won't receive the channel at all.
All you need is a TV/computer monitor with has a built-in tuner that receives ATSC signals. The words "ATSC" can also be used interchangeably with "DTV". Do not confuse this with "HDTV" or "HD ready".
If you do not, you can purchase a separate "DTV set-top box" or ATSC tuner for your TV or computer.
Then you will need a UHF antenna. VHF & UHF would be nice because you can still receive analog TV broadcasts now, but analog will be discontinued in 2011 by government mandate in Canada, and 2009 in the U.S.
Point it toward your local TV broadcast tower, or if you live near the border cities, point it towards the nearest U.S. TV tower., and you get get a whole bunch of stations..
Don't bother paying rogers cable the 35$ a month for the basic cable or over 60$ a month for the VIP.
