Is there a way to disable Edge Data?

Folks, I want to get an iPhone but I want to know how to disable Edge data. I want to use Wi-fi for data only and stick with the voiceplan I already have. Anyway to do this? I hear of people calling up Fido and getting the carrier to disable it but Rogers "claims" they cannot do it. BR Poor Taste?

yes ofcourse u can disable 3g and edge.. just remove the values from the connection tab under general. Enjoy

They can, just ask that a data block be put on your account. I have one on my Fido account (I have a v1 iPhone and do the same thing, at least untill a reasonable data plan comes along) and it works fine.

Rogers/Fido can disable it on their end! They did this for me when I had my Gen 1 iPhone! They also did it for the 4 people at my work that also had Gen 1 iPhones. I am sure now they just want u to pay for data! But then can do it. Another way is to put wrong info in the edge settings I use to put this Fake.com fake2 fake

You can also call rogers and get them to disable it just to be 100% certain.
