Aren't these money hungry companies sucking us dry enough already?....and now they want more....and more....and more? Enough is enough and its about time we, the consumer, who are lining their pockets with billions of dollars speak up and unite to do something about it. I hope everyone who has a cell phone speaks up as well and speaks up for their rights in this world!!!
If you are looking to make a deal with one of the new Cell phone companies here is what I think could be a really great selling feature for new customers and switching feature for why people will switch. and save the companies tons of money. While at first it might look like it would cost the companies tons of money I would bet it would make them more in the end.
I call my idea Auto plan switching.
Have one range of plans with cetin options similar to today's array of plans offered. The difference is that at the end of the moth have a computer crunch your actual usage and see what plan and options would have been cheapest for you to have had that month. And then the computer bills you for that usage at the cheapest rate.
Would free evening and weekend be cheaper this month. Would you be better to just go to the next plan up and not use the free weekends and evenings feature?
Maybe the rest of Canadians have more similar lives that they usually have the same calling habits but I find that some months I use 500 minutes others I have used 1500 minutes.
Would the $40 to $60 to $80 plan be best, for most people depends on the month.
It would take a bit of computing power to run each persons bill though what is cheapest logarithm. These days your standard run of the mill computer is fast than the first generation Cray Super Computers. I refuse to belive that computing power is the reason that this has not been done.
This would save the companies millions in call center personnel.
I have had a cell phone sine the early 90’s and I am can honestly say that %90 of my interaction with the companies has been plan picking. Or complaints about overages I have had $250 cell phone bills that if I had been on the right plan would have been a little over $100.
I went away for 3 weeks to Africa so I left my Canadian cell phone at home. It was smack dab in the middle of my billing cycle so 2 months my usage was down. So I called and asked for a credit.
I know the cost of call centers and while the loss of income from these kinds of overages may in the short term look disappointing to the companies but there are two factors that mitigate the loss for them. The first is the call center savings I have mentioned, but the second is the extra use encouragement. Tell people use your phone as much as you want you will automatically be put on the best plan. I am currently on a incoming plan. So my weekday out going minutes are rather low. I have held off and not used my cell phone many times because I was afraid to go over my limit. If I was on auto plan switching I would not have thought twice about picking up the phone and calling if I happened to go over oh well I would be bumped up to the next plan.
With the auto plan switching you can advertise to encourage people to use the cell phone more because oh well if you go over you will only be charged a little more because you will automatically be put into the next plan.
It also would be a huge competitive advantage and selling point over the other companies.
With the bandwidth auction finished we have new companies wanting to start up. And I would seriously consider switching to a new company that offered this kind of plan even if the plan was identical to a Rogers or Bell plan but if it had this auto plan switching feature. In fact I would even pay $2 to $3 a month for the feature just to know that I will never have to worry about being hosed with an ugly overage or be stuck paying $100 a month for usage that a $40 plan would have been overkill for.
Hey guys.As a Rogers Employee, I am going to let you in on a little bit on info.
The iPhone Voice and Data plans are not something that you HAVE to get in order to get the iPhone. All you need to get the iPhone on a contract is a voice plan.So the 25, or 30 dollar voice plans will work perfectly for the iPhone. Any questions, just email me.
