I think the best deal we would be able to get is through an American provider. A buddy of mine who had 13 older generation blackberries was paying $7000+ per month in voice and data usage to Rogers. He went to his rep and said what can you do for me here, because I am considering looking elsewhere for a better deal. The Rogers rep said that they would rescind the planned (but unknown to the customer) $100/mo increase in their bill to help but there was not much more they could do. My buddy contacted Verizon Wireless. Not only did Verizon offer 20 new generation quad-band blackberries, but offered unlimited data and 25,000 anytime/anywhere in North America minutes for a total of $3500/mo. My buddy signed the deal and then informed his Rogers rep, who said, "Damn, maybe I should call them!"
Maybe looking at American carriers is a better route? Perhaps it will entice Canadian companies to come up with more competitive plans. Rogers just lost $7000+ per month of revenue from one customer.
