Ok. So you came to this website to complain because you were being ripped off about something.
But what about the fact that your government, the people who are supposed to be watching out for you, are actually ripping you off more than any of these "evil corporations"?
The higher prices we see in Canada are a direct result of our government's and our population's insistence on maintaining a protectionist policy. Cell phones are a perfect example. Our government has such strict laws on foreign ownership of telecommunications companies, that it's nearly impossible for a foreign corporation to come in and compete with the Big Three. This lack of competition means the Big Three have free reign to charge whatever they want! If the government didn't protect these companies so much, then we would see lower rates almost instantly!
What about taxes? Look at your pay cheque and see how much the government actually takes from you. What else could you buy with that money? So far this year I have paid about half of my student loan in taxes. Which means instead of 4 years, I could pay my loan off in 1 if I wasn't being taxed so much!
Or, I could have bought shares in Rogers, and joined in on some of the profiteering that results because of poor economic policy!
(Don't start ranting to me about how we pay taxes to get services like medical care. I could easily invest my tax money better and be prepared for a medical emergency, and probably get a better deal on health care than the government can provide anyway).
The government is the biggest rip off of them all.
