Rogers making me cancel my plan to get iphone

I have a contract with Fido (part of Rogers) which is ending April 2009.At a Fido store today I indicated I wanted to purchase an iphone after launch. I was told that since I wasn't close to the end of my contract i would have to cancel it, pay the cancellation fee of $240 (8 months x $20/month fee) and sign up for a new 3-year plan in order to get the iphone. Angry, I called the customer service line and they told me that I could sign up for a 3-year contract through Rogers and they would cancel my Fido plan and waive the $240 fee since I was signing with their partner. How does this make sense? Wouldn't Fido be grateful that I want to extend my contract with them instead of charging me to do it? I might take them on their offer and then immediately switch back to Fido if this is a loophole. Poor Taste?

There is a flaw to the idea, you need to be on the contract for minimum of x months before you qualify. So if it is a new contract, you don't qualify. You might want to check with a fido representative. Just call them up and then pretend you are a Rogers customer wanting to switch.

Rogers told me the same thing. They told me I would have to cancel and pay $400.00 since I have 2 years and 2 months left on my contract and then I could get the new iPhone. Like that is going to happen. If I cancel it will be to switch to a different company.

Today our local Rogers store told me they have only 30 phones to sell tomorrow and they can only be sold as new activations. They blamed it on Apple. Even when more stock becomes available, I won't qualify for an upgrade either. My option would be to cancel one of my phones and pay the penalty. No chance there. Not happy with Rogers or Apple!

Cell phones are supposed to be productivity tools but contacting Rogers for solutions is a waste of time. I want to stop using my BlackBerry and start using the iPhone. Since I bought the BB this year and renewed on a 3 year term, the hostage takers (Rogers) don't have a solution to get me an iPhone. I'm not eligible for an upgrade they say. I can understand the subsidized cost of the BB on a 3 year term but tell me how much more I need to pay more for the iPhone so I can use it. Don't tell me I need another plan and a new phone number. I've been a Rogers wireless customer for almost 20 years. FnRogers. And my alternatives are Bell and Telus! From one crap pile to another?

Hey Adam, I am also a Fido user and I've talked to customer service a couple times, they've informed me that they do not negotiate contract extensions and such, till you have only 6 months remaining on your contract (in your case November). Of course I didn't put up much of fight....

you won't be able to switch back. if you are on either one of fido/rogers you get to switch to the other ONCE and they will "waive" the cancellation fee, provided you have been with them at least 6 months. and jason- there's nothing to negotiate, either you're within your six-month window and eligible to extend the contract or you're not.

i went too go get a iPhone and rogers didn't let me. they said i had too wait a year. cause i never had my phone long enough. or they said someone else had too have a rogers phone in my family. or they said i could pay 2 phones at the same time. my mom said no. now my phone is trash, falling apart, burnt, the keys are falling off. and if it breaks i need too wait till december. rogers is gay
