Telus' reason for charging more is BS

Here is a quote from CBC

"A spokesman for Telus said the new charges would help cover rising text messaging costs.

"This helps us recover costs from pay-per-use customers," spokesman Shawn Hall said. "Typically customers who send and receive the odd text message, you know, 'Honey pick up milk and eggs on your way home,' that kind of thing." "


Excuse me, but don't they get most of their money from pay-per-use customers? 15cents for a single message adds up! I mean they are offering an unlimited txt option so heavy txters SAVE money.

Text messages are just data that use bandwidth... and very little bandwidth at that!  Why can't they just be a part of your data plan?  Greedy buggers.

SMS are not text that are sent through the internet. They are more complicated than that.

Once the equipment are in place, the only cost that should come from it is the cost to maintain the equipment and the cost of upgrading the capacity to handle the load. However, the capacity that Telus and Bell stated does not justify upgrades of equipment.

The only reason I can think of is that to reduce cost, customers rely on SMS instead of making a call during "peak" times, and the re-adjustments of prices is to average out the income from both voice calls and sms making it a norminalized income for them.

In other words, yes, they are finding more ways to make more from us.
