we all know it and we all see it, we take a drive in the city, the fuel prices are at $1.39 per liter and ten minutes later you come back the same road and all gas stations you passed before have raised their fuel prices to exactly $1.46 per liter. The governments say they will investigate but can't find any proof of it. But it's happening in front of our noses. in the same time the Americans are complaining, that they pay the outrageous $1.05 a liter. way below what we are paying. The dollar carries better in the us gas station. Poor Taste?

Devildog, right on! Here on Saltspring Island we have the highest gas prices in Canada!! It is approx. $1.61 a liter at all 3 stations!! We all complain and nothing happens, how about government price freezes on items like fuel and food staples.

Could it be that perhaps the fuel market is so competitive that if any station chooses to change it's price, the rest are forced to follow suit? You provided an example of if one station raises it's prices, then all the others do, too. You fail to point out, however, that the same happens if one station chooses to lower it's prices. What happens then? Well, all the other stations have no option but to lower their prices too. With only a 2% margin on gasoline, it's not surprising that a station will raise it's prices if all the others do, too. They have power bills, taxes, rent, and inventory financing bills to pay. Remember, many stations are owned by individual entrepreneurs, who have a right to make a fair living for themselves by taking the risk to open a shop so you can fill your car up on every corner.
