I had been very intent on purchasing the Apple iPhone smartphone on the release date. In fact, I had signed up for the waiting list at my local Rogers affiliate.
I personally make a very good living, well above the median Canadian salary. In addition to my regular voice plan, I feel I could afford about an additional $30 for moderate data use. I feel this is more than fair and equitable when taking into consideration the data plan rates of other countries. With the current plans being offered, this gives me about 300 megabytes a month. For any smartphone and its applications, I am not sure that 300 megabytes a month covers moderate use.
Considering all factors, because I feel that Rogers current data plans are vastly overpriced, I will be foregoing a smartphone purchase at this time. I suggest that the rates for the given posted plans, be reduced about 50%. When this occurs, I will reconsider my buying decision at that time.
I am fully cognisant that:
- with the iPhone, using visual voicemail will not incur airtime charges
- my email will be pushed without charge
While I applaud both of these decisions, still feel the data plans are uncompetitive.
Sincerely,
Scott Whitfield
