When the Canadian dollar first surged to almost par with the USD, I visited a Chapters store to buy a technical manual. The US price was 49 dollars, while the Canadian price was 75 dollars.
I complained and got a blank stare. When I offered to pay in USD, I was told that I could not do that. I wonder if I had been a New Yorker that was visiting Montreal and offered to buy the book with my USD, what their reaction would have been?
Ever since this happned, I have been buying my books online and from the US. Bad for Canadian book retailers ? I don't care ! If they treat me like a cat treats a litterbox, then I will go elsewhere. I hope they put in a muffin shop in it's place once they close their doors.
