Alternatives? Isn't that the whole problem? THERE AREN'T ANY ALTERNATIVES. Telus and Bell are just as big of crooks as Rogers. That's Canada's problem! There are only 3 cell phone companies in this friggen country! (Fido and Koodoo don't count, both own by Rogers and Telus respectively).

As far as the iphone goes, there aren't any comparable alternatives (maybe the instinct, but it ain't the same. Not even close. That's why the iphone is so awesome. That's also why this is such a big deal... I mean... this website is STILL about getting better price plans for the IPHONE isn't it?

Try  ICALL it's a voip but it's free to call anywhere in North America. it works on the iphone too but i guess that doesn't help our cause. 

i think that even if virgin/koodo/solo are partially or wholly owned by rogers/bell/telus, choosing to use them instead of the big guys themselves still sends the message that were not willing to sign contracts or system acces fees, and if enough people switch to the smaller sub-companies, the big guys will notice the shift, and make changes accordingly.
i dont think it'll be an instant change or anything, but i think it will help to progess away from our current situation

Paying too much for nothing.... Rogers sucks big time and so do others like Bell and Telus. We need solid alternative.

Be patient. There will be new competition in the next year as a result of the Spectrum Auction.
Globalserve (Yak in Toronto) will offer GSM service.
You can bet GSM will become very competitve.
For this reason, Rogers will be trying to lock everyone up for 3 years using many methods. (new deals)
Just resist and be patient.
