Can you believe bell's new scam. They are going to start charging .15 to recieve a text. They say their systems can't handle all the text messaging, so are forced to charge this. I say Bull Shit. Just another way to steal more of my to few dollars. So now we will pay for text messages you might not even want. When is someone going to but a stop to these thieving bastards cell companys!!!! Poor Taste?

This should be protested like the rogers iphone thing, its outrageous, we have no control over who sens us what, i started a topic about this.

This is ridiculous !! Makes no sense! Bell is getting paid from the text msg sender, so why they want to charge the receiver? If they really want to do this, then they should give us an opportunity to have the option to not to open the msg so that we do not get charged!

Telus and Bell are saying about txting costing them too much, lets do the math.

1 minute of talking uses on average 480KB
That is almost half a MB (1024KB)

The maximum size of a txt message is 160 characters (140 bytes)

There are 1024 bytes in 1 KB

For one minute of talking using 480KB a minute, that equals out to a MINIMUM of 3429 txt messages!

Telus and Bell claim Canadians send 45 million txt messages a day.

Ok, so 45 million txts a day equals out to 13,123 minutes of calling a day, or 6.3GB a day of txt messages.

That is peanuts!

A 1 minute call is 20cents
A single txt message is 15 cents to send, and 15 cent for the reciever (30 cents total)

480KB of calling (1 minute) is 20 cents.
480KB of txting (3429) is $102.87 (5143.5 times higher than the cost of a call)

In comparison, Shaw Internet is $50 for 60GB!

45 million txts a day at what they are charging now is 6.75 MILLION dollars a DAY!
And they want MORE? They want to double that!
13.5 MILLION a DAY!

Mark my words.... Text message incoming charges will be coming to Rogers soon too.Think about it... 1st Quarter 2008 there were 4.1 BILLION text messages sent in Canada. If so many people leave Telus and Bell to go to Rogers who haven't yet announced such charges, their volume will go up as well. Easily, 8 billion messages a year on Rogers network - even without any migrations! Without doubt, some packages for incoming SMS will be offered but I can't imagine Rogers leaving $150,000,000 on the table.

why should I have to pay for texts I don't even want?? I can't control how many texts I get in a month!! I use texting, but not enough for the unlimited plans, and I don't want to pay for the ones that I don't want!
