When text messaging in Canada is finally starting to pick up the pace , Bell Canada decided to rip off their customers by charging for all INCOMING text messages. The increase is from 0 cents (which has been the case for the last 10 years) to 15 cents. No wonder the wireless adoption rate in Canada is lagging behind US, Europe and Asia due to insane wireless rates. Canada’s mobile adoption rate is only near 60% - while Europe and Asia are often 100% or more per capita. The U.S. has an 80% adoption rate. Poor Taste?

thats bull.... if i had someone that hated me they would just send me an insane ammount of text messages and i would have to pay an insane price. What the hell kind of tactic is that? especially when it costs them less then a cent to actually send that darned text message in the first place.

Since we can't control incoming messages... that's a complete ridiculous fee!

They will now make 30cents by message... 15 from the sender and 15 from the receiver... that's a complete rip-off!

Consumers in Canada(your all voters too) bend over and grab you ankles...like the liberals , the conservatives have done nothing to increase competition in canada cell phone space. Government should ban service providers from bundling cell phones with their service. That would boil cell phone service down to its essence and force them to compete. Remember its not only Rogers -Look at cable tv service- The Prov and Fed Competition Boards are as useless as tits on a bull.- Gutless Wonders

i've checked the bell website and found nothing about charging to receive regular text messages. what i did find was:

"*Excludes text alerts and dial-up messages. The only chargeable received messages are text alerts and dial-up messages at 15¢ each or they will be deducted from your Text Messaging bundle. Text messages to which you subscribe/opt in, such as Lavalife, are charged separately, depending on the service. International text messages are not included in the Text Messaging bundles."

besides, does it really make sense that after offering an alternative to Rogers and the iPhone that they would stab themselves in the foot by screwing with one of the most popular wireless services?

Bell will start charging for all INCOMING text messages on August 8 on all monthly and prepaid plans. For more info:
